Small Laptops
Small Laptops were not always on the scene. There was a time in the early 1960's when computer mainframes’ occupied an entire room, powered by motor generators and requiring massive air conditioning systems in order to function. The advancement in technology over the span of 50 years resulted in smaller mainframe computers and when the Personal Computer (PC) came on the scene it was expensive and not everyone could own one. As the PC market matured the footprint of the desk top didn't change much, but the laptop computer from its early days has become smaller and smaller and the small laptops really are at the forefront of miniaturization of the PC. Laptops became smaller, faster and less expensive and available to everyone. In the past 4 years the Small Laptop Computer has evolved significantly into an extremely small form factor.
This new small laptop combines the power of a regular sized ‘notebook’ laptop with the added portability of even smaller devices such a Palmtops, PDAs and the recent development of Smartphone’s.
However, with this new technology comes a whole host of decisions for the consumer. How much power do you need from portable small laptopsdevice? Do you need a keyboard? How much battery power will you require? How heavy is the system? The list goes on. When it comes to choosing a portable device everything from design quality to operating system needs to be considered, especially when you’re handing over a large sum of cash for the privilege!
